is my new title...LOL. I am lazy. I would rather do nothing at home, but I get frustrated with nothing at work. I think of all the things I'd rather be doing at home while at work and vice versa. And I started to wonder what else I could do at work that would make my time at home more productive...interestingly enough it turns out exercise was the answer.
I'm the lazy exerciser because I did the minimal amount of effort expecting maximum results, but even with the minimum, I'm not consistent either and so I've wasted time.
And then...I realized this was a bible story! Abraham begs the Lord to save the city Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham believed that there were righteous among the wicked. As Abraham searches for fifty, he begs that if finds just ten it could be saved...the Lord destroys the city because Abraham could only found Lot and his wife and two daughters. (Genesis 18 & 19)
Now, its a wild way to come to such a conclusion...but this is how I apply the scriptures to myself. I had it all wrong. I thought that exercise was hard. I thought I couldn't do it, so I did nothing. And when it finally came time for me to exercise, after trying P90X workout and the Insanity workouts on max, I realized that I need to start small...a few jumping jacks and lifting one pound weights. And then I realized that doing that once a week wasn't going to help. I needed to be daily vigilant and come up with a plan that would work.
Its not alot, but its something every single day. I'm sure Abraham had grand ideas of lots of people to save and highly disappointed when one of the four looked back at the city. And I've got high hopes for my exercise routine, but I'm satisfied when I do something for at least 30 minutes straight. That's progress. That's moving forward. That's not looking back.
And last night at FHE, we talked about the Word of Wisdom. I could tell them that this law was given by God to Joseph Smith for all of us to have clean and pure bodies to enter into His presence again. I don't have to be obsessive about exercise, but I can do my lazy exercising routine because its helping my body stay healthy and strong.
You can do something too. Just make a 100% improvement from yesterday and you'll be happier tomorrow. And one day I plan on bringing my exercise wheel to work and putting it under my desk (but I'm still a little embarrassed).
