Children's Books at Breakfast

"The observance of four simple things on the part of parents would in a generation or two turn our societies around in terms of their moral values.  They are simply these: Let parents and children (1) teach and learn goodness together, (2) work together, (3) read good books together, and (4) pray together."  -Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley, Ensign Sep 1996.

READ GOOD BOOKS TOGETHER!

I think about my children often and how I can help improve their behavior and provide an environment for them to succeed.  I thought of creating them a book nook:

The Book Nook -- Good Books at Breakfast Time
Couple of years ago, our son said: "I am like a little sproutling. I grow and grow until I become a faithful tree for God."  I've thought alot about this statement because I'm responsible for how he's growing.  So I envision this book nook as a haven for them to play, learn and love reading together. I like to sit there too and help them read flashcards and picture books and play games.

Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley said: "Children are like trees. When they are young, their lives can be shaped and directed, usually with ever so little effort. Said the writer of Proverbs, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Prov. 22:6). That training finds its roots in the home. There will be little of help from other sources."

Next step, read together at breakfast time.  Instead of turning on morning cartoons, I want to read them a story before we rush out of the house and into the world...it might mean getting myself up earlier so that I'm more prepared, but I'm excited to see how it works knowing it will improve our day and giving them a positive memory as a family.

Our plan...READ TOGETHER -- (1) A Scripture -and- (2) A Story...EVERY MORNING!
